What's SVN cause I've seen on every server I went on Gmod that people are talking about SVN???

Its a program which you can download the LATEST version of a program. You download it file by file and for some reason it downloads ALOT faster! it usually takes me 24 hours to download a gig but with SVNs it takes me 4 hours.
