Okay I asked for help from stargate special unit. They know me breifly and have answered my e-mails before. I also noticed there gates are scripted VERY well so I was thinking maybe they would help. They have been nice enough to go to a college/high school (can't remember which one) and teach a class how to do a map in UT 2004 so I was thinking, maybe they can help us with an easy scripting problem we have...or at least point us in the right direction.

here is what I wrote them and sent:


Hi,

I am a representative of Stargate:Event Horizon. We (2 not including me. I am just a idea person) are a group of people making a stargate mod for Starwars Jedi Knight Academy. I was wondering if you had any tips for scripting a gate or possibly a place to learn how to even start to understand how to make one work. We have one made and it makes sounds and the kawoosh happens as well the event horizen comming on. We just need help with making the chevrons light up, and possibly even the inner ring to spin. Any help would be wonderful! Thank you VERY much for you time!

I only said there was 2 people working on it because there are only 2 people doing maps. So I wasn't trying to short hand anyone. I will post any replies they have... WHO KNOWS! maybe they will give us a cool script! lol

Awsome! Thanks we can hope! Our script is good but I wish we could do it more life like... Or at least have to hit 'USE' 7 times on the DHD to open the gate lol

oh! I forgot to ask about the dhd! >_< oh well maybe they will give us good tips...cause there gates are AMAZING! they can actually shoot rockets in and have it come out the other side....but there also using another system.

here is there work and yes I know its for UT2004 but still... scripting is scripting am I correct?

Yes and no. Scripting for one engine can be complietly diferent. What engine is UT04?
Were scripting/Mapping for Quake3

there doing it for an engine thats way more advanced. But still they have a huge team and might know where to look.

Quake 3 Engine. I believe they are using the New Q4 or Valve. The same as HL2. In that case scripting will be entirely different. Sad

here is the reply I got:

"Well it really depends on the engine you're working on !
We managed to do that with the unreal engine, but it might be different with the quake 3 engine (its the one you use in JKA right?).
So well I'm not sure i'll have any piece of advice for you...

I'm sorry ! but if you have any specific question do not hesitate to ask, but i can't garantee to have any answer..

Yes models but then again. A difference. They will all need to be converted to our extentions and even then the polly's may be too high for our use. we use md3, ase, 3ds, mdc, ms3d, md2, fm, obj, and lwo. Amy, I think I'm gonna asign you a special rank! "Public Relations"... wutcha think??? lol
