Help with Terrain Empty
PostSubject: Help with Terrain   Help with Terrain EmptyFri Jan 11, 2008 1:20 am

So, im attempting to develop a map (notice the attempting, i probably wont get to the texturing stage), BUT:
I know 3 ways of making terrain: handshaping, gensurf, and EasyGen. Which one would be the easiest for a noob? (i have done hand shaping, but its slow as hell

You may wanta go with what you already know, even if it is slow. I'm no mapper, but I know a (good) map takes alot of hard work, but I'm no mapper, like I said. What kind of terrain do you mean anyway? (snowy, grassy, sandy, rocky)

By terrain, i mean like mountains and stuff. Im planning on making a lunar type surface, and making that all by hand.....*shutters*. Cameron, i know u model, so imagine this: Making ur ARG, vertex by vertex, where there can be virtually no pattern in the verticies

O_O I make made my ARG with anim8or (still can't figure out how to overwrite bowcaster, need help!) but yeah, that'd be crap (possibly on a stick) Are you saying your making a space gate, because that'd be one of the coolest maps ever! Very Happy

Kinda a space gate...there are two gates: one not in use (outside the lunar facility), and one in use (one inside)

You can take a jumper through the gate, also, is the transporter system gonna be a problem for getting through the gate with a jumper? Because even if you were able to get a jumper into the gate room, it would explode in the wormhole, or would come out of the gate, out of phase, transparent.

Midway was a good episode! lol, I'll prolly map that my self. Gensurf is glichy. Easygen is a waist of time. What I do sometimes is make my terrain by hand and hit "v" on the keyboard and pull the lil green boxes around till It looks good lol. then select it all and scale it up from there.
