Starting Up Empty
PostSubject: Starting Up   Starting Up EmptyWed Oct 22, 2008 3:52 pm

Hey... ok so I decided that I would like to start mapping or you know, make stuff, because I feel pretty useless around here what with me not doing anything but replying in the Off Topic forum. So to be of some use, again, with my wickedawesome (all one word... no space) mapping skills which I willl undoubtedly unlock from inside... I shall start lol :p

But I really don't know how... first of all, which game do you guys make the maps and models and stuff for?

Second, how do I go about mapping? Is there a site that can kind of tell you what to do? Is there a program I need to do it?

I am a mapping n00b and any help would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, I know I probably could have googled this, but I figured I'd ask you guys cause you all seem to know what you're doing lol

Anyways, thanks in advance for teh help. really appreciate it. Very Happy

i map for jka, and i use gtkradiant 4
http://eliteforce2.filefront.com/file/GTKRadiant;26097

i have no idea how to use hammer so i don't do hl2

there are some good sites for beginners to help get the basics:
http://www.map-craft.com/Tutoriaux.html
http://www.richdiesal.map-craft.com/

Both will tell you pretty much everything you need to get well on the way to mapping for jka or elite force.

hope that helps vandez

I'm pretty useless too, but I don't really care to be honest. If you guys need me to slink into the mod I'm working with for HL2 for textures, sounds, drugs, say the word and I'll see what I can find.

Yes, uh... Tretonin... among, other things.
So, if you need help, I'll get you one of everything cool, and a misdemeanors-worth of the other stuff.

right now we need mappers for hl2... we have skins thanks to teh wonderful people of garrysmod.com, lol but we don't have any cool stargate maps...we have space maps and planet maps but the ones for stargate that are already made are kinda cool but not great...

any maps you can do will be great ^_^ I don't know how hammer or what ever works but I am learning wiremod so maybe I can help out when someone makes a map or two....is that how you add all that cool stuff and then save it to teh map some how or does Hammer do all that?

Maps for HL2 that we would possibly need are worlds with space travel inbetween. This way we can rp space travel, gate travel, and everything inbetween.

Specialty maps such a bigger Atlantis or SGC or what ever are cool as well ^_^. Let your imaginations run wild ^_^

Also I am looking into RP mods. I tried the stargate one and like it, but I dislike how they force a model on you. Does anyone have any ideas on good RP mods we could possibly use for a server?

Do we even have a server yet?

As far as HL2 i'm still trying to figure it out while working on some other SG-JKA projects...
What ever editor came in the Source SDK is confusing but seems to be the most like GTK....

Whats Wiremod?

Yeah, I'd really rather mod for HL2, so which mapping thing is better to use? Hammer? or that other one?

wire mod is basically a mod that lets you connect things together and put "chips" (items that do complex things) on surfaces that let you tell items to do things. Like if you put a button on a flat surface it will say "button value =0, when button is pressed value = 1" so when you connect the the button to a....lets say a nuke you click the nuke connect it to the button and when you connect it you choose the option "when value = 1 set charge" so if the bomb is activated and you press the button BOOM!

its just stuff like that. Things to connect items to each other so they do what you want. Things like: doors, computer screens, manual iris, bombs, elevaders, telleporters, and anything else really you can think of ^_^

in more expert areas when you know hella math bla bla bla you can actually do a warp drive system... the possibilities are endless... congradulate me I figured out the basics of asguard tech in gmod! ^_^ so now I can trasport to another area one way... lol gotta figure out how to do multiple areas...maybe when shep does his ships again I will find out how to do one that searches for the closest gps locator so we can "warp to the planet" when in space ^_^
